Lip Smackin' Lime Smoothie

Green Smoothie

Remember the Shamrock Shake? I am not sure those are even around anymore. My sister Shannon used to love them because they were minty. For spring's approach this weekend I wanted to make a green smoothie. I am not a fan of mint and I know some people make green smoothies with veggies but not me, I went for lime!

Green Smoothie

That is right, I used lime jello for this recipe. I picked up a small package of lime gelatin and put it in a blender with 1/2 cup of boiling water and blended to help dissolve the gelatin.

Then I added 2 cups of lime sherbet, 1 cup of vanilla yogurt and 1 banana and blended away.

Green Smoothie

Lip-snackin', tart and sweet, this smoothie is awesome! I could just imagine making a fizzy drink with it by adding some sparkling lemon and lime pop to it, crazy-delicious.

I love smoothies. I make them every single day and love experimenting with them. They are low in fat and full of flavour. Wish I could be the healthy person who makes spinach smoothies but hey, I eat spinach all the time.

This was a treat to celebrate the colour green and the fact that spring is officially around the corner! Can't wait to see the colour green growing on my lawn. For now, I will toast my front yard with this lime smoothie and drink the colour green instead.

Yum! We may hit 80 tomorrow, and I know exactly how I'm going to celebrate (well, that and planting, since frost warning's gone bye-bye).

Wow, a lime smoothie, so refreshing and so green, the jello, cool idea. I recently found a recipe (Janet and Greta)for a smoothie where you use pistachio flavoured instant pudding mix. Also very green, sweet and creamy. I used to love those Shamrock Shakes as well.

Awesome. I actually have all these ingredients on hand. I am going to make some lime smoothies right now.

That sounds way better than those vegie green smoothies made with powder of X or broken open vitamin capsules that people try to convince you taste ok

I love smoothies, but I haven't found a good one that I like that doesn't include bananas. It seems they are always the base of a good smoothie, and I don't like bananas! Blech! (I should eat them for the potassium, but...)

I love your take on a green smoothie though!! Fun :)

Oh Tammy, you can totally make all smoothies without the banana! One of the reasons why people add them is to thicken them. You can add some icing sugar as a sweetener and the cornstarch in it will naturally thicken the smoothie. Also, with you being on the west coast you may be able to get the sweet fruit-flavoured tofu which a lot of people put in smoothies. I can just take out bananas in my smoothies quite easily, in fact I forget them here and there and it's just a little looser so you can have a smoothie you love! Just kick out the banana.
